Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, and Strip Search

Yeesh, I'm seriously terrible about updating this blog.  Lately I've just had a lot to do, which means not much time for drawing personal stuff.  Hopefully that'll change soon.  Also, if you want to see new art more often, you can check my tumblr out- I post on there fairly regularly, although a lot of it is dumb stuff like post-it doodles and things like that.  Sometimes I post comics and fun stuff too, though.

Here's some of the stuff I've posted to my tumblr lately...also I've got a cool announcement at the bottom of this post, so don't miss it!  :]

From Game of Thrones, Catelyn Stark.

Robb Stark

Joffrey "Little Shit" Baratheon

...and the lovely Khaleesi!

Here's Arya...

...and here are some doodles of how I see Arya from the books, rather than the show.

Here's how Ygritte looks in my head.

These next ones are characters from Downton Abbey...a few of these were drawn without reference and I think they turned out to be the funnier ones.

Here's an example of the types of comics I sometimes post on tumblr (Sorry Adam).

Now for the fun stuff!  Tomorrow (Friday the 1st) the first episode of Strip Search will be up and ready to watch!  For those not in the know, it's a reality style web show for web comic artists that Mike and Jerry of Penny Arcade dreamed up, and I was lucky enough to be a part of it.  I know it sounds crazy but it was a seriously fun experience.

If you click the picture above it'll take you to the site, which is pretty fun even though the first episode isn't up yet (edit, the show is up now).  There's a trailer for the show, bios for each artist, and a couple interviews that are pretty hilarious/enlightening.

To end this post, above is a little drawing of my fellow artists/strippers/friends/competitors.  I love them all, so check out their comics!  I'll list them in the order that I drew them:

(Me)

If any of you watch the show, let me know what you think!  :]

  1. Your Arya both caricature and imagined are the bestest! But wait, your competitors are your friends too?! That is NOT the eye of the tiger Katie. Crush your enemies and see them driven before you....

  2. That annoying trouble! But despite the problems, your drawings are great!

  3. *sigh* I adore you. I'm going to finally start reading The Game of Thrones soon (I was waiting to be bed-ridden - then I decided not to bank on that...)

  4. Love the show and your caricatures are SPOT on! :)

  5. I've been watching the show, and it just confirms what I already knew, You are an awesome artist and a very sweet person.

Even if you don't win, you are still the best. <3

  6. Wow! Your Downton Abby characters are spot on! Especially the 3 sisters! I love the unique profile of each one.

Also I love how you portrayed yourself in the #stripsearch picture. :) You are adorable!

  7. Great job avoiding being the first eliminated contestant. I thought your shirt design was the best, and your comic was great for 90 minutes of effort.

  8. You know, I honestly thought you had the best T-shirt design - it was a comic strip in one panel! Everyone else was designing logos.

Katie, I am so impressed with how you handled your near elimination - you simply out drew your opposition (Your space ping pong strip was priceless!) and came walking back in like Cool Hand Luke.

No complaining - just that winning smile. You could sense the self inflicted tension Amy was under.

It seems clear now that this show is more entertainment than any true assessment of who is the best comic artist - so I am not going to even attempt to predict the outcome - but you showed us all the talented artist you are, and I will cheer you on all the way!

    Go get 'em, Katie!

  9. Hi Katie! I ordered a copy of the Skadi Book and I never received it. And now it says sold out on the store page? am I ever going to get my Book? Please reply.

  10. Luke is actually the one in charge of shipping the books...I contacted him and he said a few of the books were sent out a bit late but should have arrived at their destinations by now. Can you email your information to skadibook at gmail dot com, so we can look up the shipping information and confirm that your order was received correctly? Thanks, and sorry for the delay!

  11. Been watching Strip Search and I can honestly say that you seem like the nicest person to ever appear on a reality tv show. Congratulations on maintaining your humanity however the show worked out for you.

  12. My brain is trying to comprehend that strip search has already happened and there's already an outcome - but my timeline doesn't know it yet - so I want you to know that I'm rooting for you!

  13. "I cannot say" I LOST IT. So great.

I am really rooting for you in strip-search. It's really tense! I love your art.

  14. YEAH - MADE IT PAST ELIM 2! Was on the edge of my chair at work today! Great job!

  15. Great job at backseat drawing - definitely a winning contender on that one! One step closer!

  16. Really amazing drawings. Like the shift in style from cross-hatched (pseudo-Renaissance) to art deco (pseudo-1920s) for the different shows. Also, brilliant likenesses without slavishly copying how they physically look. A tough trick.

I've been watching Strip Search, and after Ep 8 finally looked you up after enjoying your drawings on the show. I thought your second elimination cartoon was brilliant, keeping in mind that it will only be seen in the context of the show.

Totally didn't realize you are the artist of Skadi! Somehow I lost track of this strip over time, but I really love it. It's my fave of the Dumm Comics.

However the competition turned out, hope you get a well earned boost in traffic from your time there.

  20. My wife and I have started watching Strip Search fanatically. Your comment on the Twitter challenge about turning trolls made us both giggle: only someone as nice as you could pull that off ;)

  23. Looks great Katie! Love how your drew Monica!

  24. Ping Pong... is not the macarena. It takes patience. She is like a fine, well-aged prostitute... it takes years to learn her tricks. She is cruel, laughs at you when you are naked, but you keep coming back for more, and more! Why? Because she is the only prostitute I can afford.

Grats on another win! Woo hoo!

  25. Ladies and Gentlemen - the two-time undisputed Strip Search Table Tennis champion! Katie! The crowd goes wild!

  26. That Jungle Speed psych-out with Abby was like watching a lion go after a gazelle!

  27. Wow. Grats on the signature challenge win! So bittersweet though, choosing who goes and who stays would be excruciating.

  32. I love your style and character designs. I was wondering, though, you mentioned on the show how some of your animator friends thought going on the show was a bad idea. As an animator myself, I can't think of a legitimate reason why it would be. Out of curiosity, what are their arguments?
