Nerding out with Harry Potter Post-its

I was hoping my next post would be all the drawings I did that were inspired by my North Carolina vacation, but I'm not ready for that yet. There's a lot to organize, and right now the only drawings I did are so rough and weird that I don't think anyone would be able to tell what they were. SO!! Instead, here are some HP post-its from before I left LA.

Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasely)

Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood)

Emma Watson (Hermione Granger...holy crap, this girl's likeness is hard to get!!)

Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown)

Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange)

(not looking so healthy today)

I drew a whole bunch more Bonnies too. I'm not sure I really got her look down, but I like these anyhow. It took a while for me to warm up to her in the role of Ginny, but I think she's really interesting now. She definitely has a pretty and unconventional look that is hard (but fun) to draw.

(Luke says this one looks the most like her)

Check out how pretty it was in North Carolina...this was taken from the car, as the sun was setting and all the light was shining on the leaves. So nice!

See ya later...

P.S. Expect more HP crap once the DVD is out! Sorry for non-nerd readers out there! >__<;

Oooh, vera nice :P
The one of Bellatrix (the second one) looks like Calypso from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies.
Oh, I have a question and even as I'm thinking about it, it sounds...really stupid: When you're drawing with markers, how do you keep them from being streaky because I noticed the way you draw, the color is so smooth and evenly distributed and I'm "*GASP* Sorcery!"
So...is there like a trick or I should just not hesitate and leave those hesitation streaks?

Thanks Ricky and Stef! :D

Amanda, I almost always use chartpak markers to color. They barely streak, but the bleed REAL bad, so you gotta be careful. They're also super stinky.

Trias and Prismacolors are pretty good about not streaking, but you have to color sort of quickly in order to not get streaks. The longer you leave the color down, the more it dries, so if you need to color a large space, sometimes it's good to go back and forth between filling in the empty space and going over the areas you've already colored.

It's not a stupid question at all! It takes practice to get used to any art tool and make it work. Marlo is the best artist I know when it comes to making marker look like paint. She never gets streaks!

Fab caricatures as usual, love that someone else out there likes Bonnie's look, those are some real cute sketches of her! And I agree the Emma Watson is spot on.

Noice! Hey, are you making a conscious effort to start drawing smaller eyes now?

You've managed to start drawing eyes smaller, yet they're still cute. I don't know how you do it, but it's funny you drew Hermoine.

I tried drawing her last year and, in an attempt to 'cutify' the drawing, I drew her with big eyes only to realize she doesn't have them. She's not Winona Ryder.

But she's cute as a button, as is her post-it!

PS: Marlo is a marker ninja!

:D.....I'm speechless and you got Emma Watson down pat! I also love Helena's caricature especially. Helena must've been really fun for you.

Katie said...

Thanks everyone! :D

Brie- I've drawn the guys before, I'm just not brave enough to post them cause they're crappy. :)

Zach- Yup, these are marker. I try to limit myself to whatever stuff is laying around on my desk to color these.

Amanda- I've never used artwins! I gotta look those up. And I didn't know I had an email from you! Sorry, I will look for it in my inbox.

Trevor- Hmm, I don't think it's a conscious effort, no...I think when I draw someone made up I tend to do bigger eyes, but when drawing from reference I just go off whatever kinds of eyes the person has. Emma Watson is definitely adorable. Are you gonna post your drawing of her? I think she actually does have kind of big eyes, but they're always sort of squinted up, making them look long horizontal-wise.

Sean- Yeah, Helena was fun to draw. Kind of hard, though. Her look is so specific. :)

Trevor Thompson said...

Katie,

I TRIED to draw her... unsuccessfully. Maybe I'll try again!

hello! Ha, I'm not sure what you mean when you say you can't draw a stylized car ... I 100% doubt that! You are so talented it's unbelievable!! Your blog is so inspiring.

Beautiful style you have!! I can't wait to see more! :)

Keep drawing! :)

The Helena Bonham Carter drawings are spot-on!

Trevor Thompson said...

I'm starting to hate the word 'stylized'. Especially when non-artists use it.
