8-bit Book Signing!!

Everyone who can make it should come out! There's a book that's just come out of all the 8-bit art from the first show, and it looks really nice. Lots of artists will be signing it, including me, so here's the info...don't forget!

SATURDAY, APRIL 22
7 - 10 p.m

GALLERY NINETEEN EIGHTY EIGHT
7020 Melrose Ave (corner of La Brea by Pink's Hot Dog Stand)
Los Angeles, CA 90038

Books will be available there, too!

Now on to some drawings...here are the 4 Nintendo gals I drew for the first 8-bit!
My favorite, Princess Peach
Princess Daisy

Zelda
And Samus!

Well, I hope some of you who read this can make it! See you later...

Hah, those are cool. You shoulda done the art in the game.

Hey I wanted to show you my "Ripping Off Katie" post. I tried to practice drawing girls like you do, but I'm not so great at it. I'm working on colored versions with my tablet pc too. Just thought you might wanna see if you're bored sometime.

If I can't make it there (I'm stuck in Missouri), how can I go about obtaining a book?

You can buy the book from Amazon , but of course it won't have the Katie signature.

Great pieces, Katie! I love the colors on Zelda. How many drawings does it usually take you until you get the final version done?

Adorable! Your art just slays me... I mean, in a good way. If I wasn't gonna draw like me, I'd love to be able to draw like you!

:o)

i'm going to first boast in saying that i own the originals... but second compliment katie on having done the coolest marker sketches ever in the whole universe. glad you posted them so everybody can see them.

can i ask anyone that has experience in the matter - how can i make sure that the marker doesn't fade much or that these last a while? i've heard there is a spray (and it's not like i keep them in bright light or sun ever touches them).

good job k8e

Really cool. I like the Zelda one the best. Did you know Princess Peach has her own game on the DS now? It's supposed to be good, too.

Aww, those are just too very cute! I've never heard of Samus before, but it looks kinda like she's been eaten up by that huge suit thing and is totally gonna fall over with it's crazy heaviness.
I had a dream last night, where my friend Lisa was interning at Spumko, and when visiting her there, I saw you, and ran up, and said "You're KATIE RICE!" with love and fangirlness in my eyes. And you said "uh, yeah." and walked past me cooly, and my hard shattered into a million pieces. Then you and all the Spumko people got into big black Hummer limos and left. Then something else happened, probably involving a dinosaur or something.
Now, if "I DREAMT about you!" isn't the creepiest thing you've heard from someone you don't know, you must have a surreal life.

Do you hand color your drawings or do it on the computer? If it's by hand could you share what you use??

Hi, I just came from John K's Blog...did you animate any of those girls in the Beach Frenzy clip he's showing by chance? I believe he said you at least designed a few of them, and I thought they looked great.

These illustrations are very good. I'm practicing with my prismacolors to achieve the same quality. How do you ink your illustrations? And if you dont mind me saying so, you are very cute yourself.

What's your favorite Metroid game!?

That Samus one is awesome!!! Could you even make a Metroid look cute? Heck, they're cute anyway. Can I order this book online somewhere? =]

You are too cool! I love nintendo characters!!!

I think I like Zelda the most.

Too bad I don't live in LA, I would have loved to go to that book signing thing.

I would also love to see you maybe draw pikachu!

Katie,

Some friends and I are taking a trip to Los Angeles for a week to tour the animation scene. Do you of any particular studios, popular galleries, etc. that we should check out?

KATIE!!!

Man O' Man, your stuff is still cool as hell. I was so mad at the guy who bought them, actually just jealous, very jealous and bitter.

=) If you find time Katie it would still be so cool if you could do a demo and post it on your bloggy blog?

I've yet to see your clean up process, I really liked your reply on how you approach the markers. Makes me want to draw and get my fingers all messy with markers.

Great drawings, great designs and so much fun!

ROCK ON!

Hm... Too cute. Is yer stuff in the books much?

Katie said...

ARRGH! I typed out this huge thing with all the answers to people's questions, but it got deleted...why??? I hate it.

Marc- Thanks! It varies...some drawings I clean up straight from the sketch, and others take a million drawings to get it "right." Those ones usually suck more. Thanks for the Amazon link!

Scott- Yes!! I know aaaaaaaall about the new Princess Peach game. :)

Sarah- I don't feel creeped out, just guilty, ha! I'm sorry I was an arsehole in your dream! I'm usually pretty nice in real life...and I barf in limos.

Aimee- Everything I've done recently is by hand...I will do a post on marker coloring soon! If you want the brand names of the markers I use right away though, I think I listed them in a comment on the previous post. :)

Robert- I'm glad you liked the NBF gals! I did key layouts and designs for some of the scenes, but no real animation. I wish I knew all the names of the people who animated all those funny girls, but I don't...I know Jess Borutski did some of the coolest scenes though. John K. talked about her on his blog in a previous post!

Clinton- I'll try to do a post about inking soon, along with the marker coloring! There are a lot of cool places to visit...it might be fun to ask some of the studios, like Nickelodeon and CN if they do tours...I don't know if they do though. I'm kind of a hermit though so I don't know that many other places...If I think of any I'll let you know!

Mitch- I'm actually not good at the Metroid games at all...ergh! I'm more into Mario and Zelda. :)

Intergalactic- Yes! I will do it soon, once I figure out how to! :D

Eric- All the stuff I posted here is in the book...just the 4 drawings. There's a lot of other really cool stuff in there though!

Thanks again guys!

Dear Katie.
I love your drawings.
All the time.
They are always about to explode with cuteness all over the place.
It was great to meet you for a split moment at the signing sitting there next to tony and gabe.
Sweet.
Ok, later!
